Kurs: Perl Fundamentals

Perl is a powerful programming language commonly used for development of web and database solutions.

Perl is suitable for system administrators and others who need small applications/scripts to solve common tasks.

This course gives a thourough introduction to Perl, what it is, and how you can use it.

Goals

After this training, you will be able to write usefule perl-programs.

You wil also be able to develop programs for web and database manipulation.

You will know enough about the possibilities in the language to easily learn use of new modules, also modules that were not a part of this course.

Target

The target audence for the course is mainly you who are about to start using perl, or want to become more effective in your usage of it.

If you have previous knowledge of the language, you will be better able to systemize the knowledge and get some valuable and useful tips. You should however be aware that there will some known subjects.

Forkunnskaper

The course assumes general computer knowledge and some existing familiarity with programming/scripting languages. Basic constructions like if and while will be talked about, but the main focus is on Perl-specific, advanced subjects (Regular expressions, object orientation, CGI-programming etc.).

The chapter about Perl and C requires some knowledge about the language C, but this is a very small chapter which does not have any impact on the rest of the course. The students decides themselves during the course which chapters should be delved deeper into, and the one about C is usually not one of them.
