Portfolio management is a coordinated collection of strategic processes and decisions that enable an effective balance of organizational change and business as usual. Management of Portfolios (MoP®) approaches change projects and programmes from a strategic viewpoint. It provides an overview of all change activities including what is in the portfolio, what it is costing, what risks are faced, what progress is being made, and what the impact is on business as usual and the organization’s strategic objectives. Course description: The purpose of the Practitioner qualification is to confirm whether the candidate has achieved sufficient understanding of how to apply and tailor the MoP guidance and to analyze portfolio data, documentation and roles in relation to a scenario situation. A successful Practitioner candidate should, with suitable support, be able to advise on the implementation of appropriate practices and techniques, and apply the method to a live portfolio, but may not be sufficiently skilled to do this appropriately for all situations. Their individual expertise, the complexity of the portfolio, and the support provided will also influence the impact the Practitioner can achieve. Course objectives: Candidates should be able to apply and understand how to tailor MoP effectively. The MoP® (Management of Portfolios) guidance provides senior executives and practitioners responsible for planning and implementing change, with a set of principles, techniques and practices to introduce or re-energize portfolio management. MoP helps organizations answer the fundamental question: Are we sure this investment is right for us and how will it contribute to our strategic objectives? Investment is the key word because portfolio management is about investing in the right change initiatives and implementing them correctly. Are we doing these things right? Are we realizing all the benefits in terms of more effective services and efficiency savings from the changes we are implementing? Course description: The purpose of the Foundation certification is to confirm you have sufficient knowledge and understanding to work as an informed member of a Portfolio Office or in a range of portfolio management roles. The Foundation level is also a pre-requisite for the Practitioner Course objectives: At the end of this course, you will be able to understand the principles, cycles, practices, techniques, roles, responsibilities, documents and organizational context within which portfolio management operates.
