CONTENT Themes in the course are: The mooring system and the line tension/line length measurements Mathematical vessel models and mooring models Catenary profi les and touchdown points The Position Mooring functions - automatic thruster assist functions, line tension calculations, tension optimisation calculations, line break detection and extreme motion and tension prediction calculations Transferring data to the PM simulator and setting up the simulator The DP functions in the PM systems Pre-operational tests and checks DGPS and HPR/HiPAP systems introduction and handling of position reference systems Requirements, rules and regulations for the Automatic Thruster Assist System LEARNING PROCESS The training will be a combination of theoretical lessons and practical exercises. The DP Simulator course is the second course in The Nautical Institute (NI) sceeme. [+]
LEARNING OBJECTIVES After the course, the successful participants are able to: Apply the lessons learned to date Operate the desk under normal and pressured conditions Discuss systems failures Decide on courses of action because of systems failures Operate the communications Analyse the trends React to alarms and printer readout Initiate DP Alert status alarms Practice effective teamwork CONTENT Study of DP incidents Construction and use of work site diagrams, charts and vessel templates for use in DP operations Preparation of plans for a projected DP operation, contingency plans for expected deviations and emergencies Participation in simulated situations in a variety of DP operations while handling routine and emergency situations Risk and safety analysis, and defining DP equipment classes The DP system’s utilisation of position measurements, and tests on position reference systems New development in DP systems including position reference systems and control systems LEARNING PROCESS The training will be a combination of theoretical lessons and practical exercises. The participants will work with practical scenarios based on real operations, training on planning and executing specified operations under varying simulated conditions. During the operations typical DP failure modes will be included. Realistic communication with the field centre, other vessels and the different departments onboard is also included. A rotary plan will be made so that the participants will act in a variety of capacities during the course. [-]
