LEARNING OBJECTIVES After the course, the successful participants are able to: Apply the lessons learned to date Operate the desk under normal and pressured conditions Discuss systems failures Decide on courses of action because of systems failures Operate the communications Analyse the trends React to alarms and printer readout Initiate DP Alert status alarms Practice effective teamwork CONTENT Study of DP incidents Construction and use of work site diagrams, charts and vessel templates for use in DP operations Preparation of plans for a projected DP operation, contingency plans for expected deviations and emergencies Participation in simulated situations in a variety of DP operations while handling routine and emergency situations Risk and safety analysis, and defining DP equipment classes The DP system’s utilisation of position measurements, and tests on position reference systems New development in DP systems including position reference systems and control systems LEARNING PROCESS The training will be a combination of theoretical lessons and practical exercises. The participants will work with practical scenarios based on real operations, training on planning and executing specified operations under varying simulated conditions. During the operations typical DP failure modes will be included. Realistic communication with the field centre, other vessels and the different departments onboard is also included.   LEARNING OBJECTIVES This course aim to provide navigators on DP vessels knowledge and skills to succsessfully renew the DNVGL DPO certificate. By the end of the course the students shall have: Knowledge of the simulator bridge and the equipment The capability to operate the DP System in modes relevant to offshore loading operations; i.e. Joystick, Auto Pos, Approach, Weather Wane, Follow target, Auto track The ability to carry out any Offshore Loading Operation according to field procedures, guidelines and to best practice   CONTENT Simulator exercises Briefing and de-briefing of a variety of relevant exercises Basic Human Factors   LEARNING PROCESS All exercises will be carried out on a Full Scale Visual DNV GL Approved DP Class A simulator, being able to simulate a variety of pre-selected operations relevant for the actual certificate to be renewed. DPO Specialization, Advanced operations is a course within the DNVGL DPO certification sceeme for advanced offshore vessel operations. [+]
LEARNING OBJECTIVES This course is specifically designed for training future DPO’s onboard a large number of offshore vessels. After the course the successful participant has: Acquired a thorough knowledge of the various types of DP operations. Examples of operations: cable laying, pipe laying, ROV operations, trenching, dredging and rock-dumping The capability to operate the DP in the various modes  associated with such operations, i.e. joystick, auto pos. mode, autotrack mode and follow target mode The competence to recognize when environmental conditions or system failure requires DPO to take action to avoid hazardous situations The ability to carry out such operations according to existing operational guidelines and checklists The ability to demonstrate good personal attitudes towards safety in operating DP vessels according to best practice in the industry CONTENT Planning, briefing and de-briefing of various field exercises  according to the existing guidelines, regulations, and industry standards. Repetition of necessary DP theory to close any knowledge gap the students may have in these subjects. LEARNING PROCESS Practical training simulator: All DP exercises will be carried out on a full scale DNV GL Approved DP Class A simulator, using vessels that are equipped according to DP class 2 and 3. The participants will performe both surface and subsea operations, utilizing the following DP modes: Joystick, Autoposition, Autotrack and Follow target functionalities. DNVGL DPO Exam, This exam tests the skills and competence of a DPO against the requirements given in the competence standard [+]
EXAM OBJECTIVES This exam tests the skills and competence of a DPO against the requirements given in the competence standard (see "special information"). The exam is a thorough test, covering the most important competences for a DPO, in compliance with relevant DNVGL competence standards. DP Sea Time Reduction course at The Nautical Institute (NI) gives the DP operator a reduction of supervised DP sea time of max 30 days [+]
LEARNING OBJECTIVES The period of supervised DP sea time days after the Simulator Course may be reduced by a maximum of 30 days by the satisfactory completion of an intensive DP Simulator Course. CONTENT Study of DP incidents Construction and use of worksite diagrams, Electronic Charts and Vessel templates for use in DP operations Preparation of plans for a projected DP operation, contingency plans for expected deviations and emergencies. Participation in simulated situations in a variety of DP operations while handling routine and emergency situations Risk and safety analysis, and defining DP equipmentclasses The DP system’s utilization of position LEARNING PROCESS The participants will work with practical scenarios based on real operations, training on planning and executing specified operations under varying simulated conditions.During the operations typical DP failure modes will be included. Communication with field control, other vessels and the different departments onboard will be included. A rotation plan will be made so that the participants will act in different roles during the course.The scenarios will be run on a K-POS DP system Class2, in a full mission simulator environment connected to an advanced simulator control (NI Class A). The DPO Experience course is a volum training course in the DNVGL certification sceeme [+]
LEARNING OBJECTIVES The objective of this course is to give the trainee DPOs as much hands-on experience as possible in the time available. This is achieved by running the candidates through intensive simulator training whilst being exposed to environmental and technical worst case scenarios. This will increase the candidate’s operational skills and knowledge in DP Operations. CONTENT All the exercises are carried out on a full scale ship simulator with integrated Kongsberg DP systems, SDP 21 or K-Pos DP operations planning and watch keeping procedures Handling of position reference systems Handling of various propulsion systems  Repetition of various theoretical topics from the DPO Preparation and DPO Start courses upon request from course participants LEARNING PROCESS This course is designed to give the trainee DPO extensive hands-on training in the use of the DP in a number of varied worst case scenarios. The DPO Revalidation course is a course within The Nautical Institute Sceeme and revalidates your DPO Certificate if you are short of DP sea time [+]
LEARNING OBJECTIVES By the end of the course the participants should: Have acquired knowledge of the latest rules and regulations Have acquired knowledge of the latest developments within sensors and Position Reference Systems (PRS) Have acquired knowledge of the latest relevant DP incidents and wy they occurred Be able to recognize the various alarm, warning and information messages Carry out operational planning, risk assessment and hazard identification tasks Set up the DP system for a particular task/operation Decide on courses of action because of system failure CONTENT The course is conducted as classroom training, combining theoretical presentation (Show-and Tell Lessons) and practical work/discussion with exercises in simulator and guidance (Stair-Step learning design). For practical capabilities and skills, exercises are performed in full equipped DP simulator. This course will fulfil the revalidation learning objectives as specified by Nautical institute. SPECIAL INFORMATION At present (2016), the requiremets is that the holder of a Nautical Institute (NI) DPO certificate must revalidate their DPO certificates. The requirement is that the DPO must have at least 150 days of DP sea time experience in the previous 5 years, if not NI DPO Revalidation course is needed. [-]
